Gas prices in the Alleghenies have reached levels never before seen locally.Prices for a gallon of regular unleaded soared to $3.19 in at some stations, and experts said prices are expected to go even higher. With crude oil prices hovering around the $100 mark, industry experts predicted it won't be long before drivers see $4 a gallon. The increase is not only being blamed on the weak U.S. dollar, but also increased violence in Nigeria surrounding an election controversy."We need someone to do something to help all of us," one driver said. "It's ridiculous."Increased violence in Iraq and Iran also played a part, as well as falling oil inventory.
