New York, NY -- (Sports Network) - Verdell Jones III scored 20 points to lead the Indiana Hoosiers to a 74-64 victory over the Pittsburgh Panthers at Madison Square Garden as part of the Jimmy V Classic. Christian Watford added 18 points for Indiana (4-4), while Maurice Creek posted eight points and eight rebounds in the win. Ashton Gibbs netted 25 points for Pittsburgh (7-2), while Brad Wanamaker and Dante Taylor chipped in with 18 and 12 points, respectively, in the losing effort. The Hoosiers went into the break with a 33-29 lead after holding the Panthers to a meager 32.3 percent shooting effort from the floor in the opening half. Indiana pulled away in the second stanza, shooting 51.9 percent from the field, en route to the 10-point victory. The Hoosiers connected on 25-of-34 attempts from the foul line in the contest, while Pittsburgh made just 12-of-17 shots from the charity stripe.
