State College Police Say Stabbing Victim Lied To Investigators

A man who suffered stab wounds over the weekend is accused of lying to State College police about the incident.State College police received a call from Mount Nittany Medical Center just after 12 a.m. Saturday reporting a 41-year-old Mifflinburg man was stabbed downtown.

The man said he and his wife drove to State College late Friday to help a friend whose car had broken down. The man said he was looking for his friend around the 400 block of East Beaver and College avenues when someone hit him over the head and stabbed him three times.The man said he was wearing an Ohio State hat and hooded sweatshirt at the time of the assault, but police said some of those items are missing.Police said the man was taken to Altoona Regional Hospital, where he underwent surgery over the weekend.A State College police lieutenant said after further investigation, police said the incident did not happen in State College and there is no threat to the public's safety.Police did not say why they believe the victim gave false information to police and did not release any more information.Stay with WJAC-TV News and WJACTV.com for continuing coverage.
