Historic Centre County Building Destroyed By Fire

A historic home that once belonged to a Pennsylvania governor was destroyed by fire Friday.The home at the corner of Allegheny and Curtain streets in Bellefonte was built in the 1870s and had since been converted into apartments.

Flames were spotted at about 1:30 a.m. on the third floor. All 15 occupants escaped and there were no reported injuries.Officials said the building's owner had just installed a sprinkler system and was awaiting an inspection by the borough code department.Early indications point to an electrical problem as the cause of the blaze, a local fire official said.A state police fire marshal is handling the investigation.Stay with WJAC-TV News and WJACTV.com for continuing coverage.
