LOSING IT ACROSS THE ALLEGHENIES: Full-Body Workout Pays Off

Jason Barndollar's workout is designed to maximize fat loss, strength and endurance. And after three months in the "Losing It Across The Alleghenies" program, it's paying off.

So far, he's lost nearly 40 pounds, and his old habits like spending hours playing video games and late-night urges to eat are going by the wayside.

"I feel good, I feel really motivated. You know, every now and then sometimes, I'm getting pushed a little too hard, I get a little tight and I want to quit, but for the most part I just shove that aside and keep going," Barndollar said.

Barndollar, of Blair County, said he's found eating healthier was an easier lifestyle change than he thought it would be.

"I don't always follow it to a tee; I'm not going to lie to you. But for the most part, the dieting has been the easiest part. And I'm really surprised by that. I don't buy junk food anymore: I don't buy candy anymore. Sometimes I have the urge, but I can hold that urge back," he said.

With the help of, Mike Schultz, his personal trainer at Snap Fitness, Barndollar is working on a full-body routine by executing each exercise while standing up.

"If we're working on abs, we're working in every direction you can work your abs. Horizontally, vertically, diagonally, left to right -- things like that," Schultz said.

Barndollar said he also just recently quit smoking, cold turkey. He said he grew tired of coughing and having difficulty breathing, and both he and his doctor believe the lifestyle change will greatly benefit his blood pressure. His exercise routine also focuses on being heart-healthy.

"(We're) also working multiple muscle groups at a time, burning more calories per exercise per rep, emphasizing not just the strength and endurance, but the cardiovascular as well (by) going from one exercise to the to the other very quickly (and) keeping the heart rate up," Schultz said.

Though Barndollar said he's "nowhere near where I want to be," he said he notices changes in his body and that's what keeps him motivated to keep going.
