In the wake of heavy snowfall throughout the Alleghenies, retailers said they're hoping that shoppers will come out and spend during the final stretch before Christmas, especially at local stores.Though a good amount of people braved the weather conditions on "Super Saturday" -- which is traditionally the busiest shopping day of the year -- the Galleria in Richland closed early due to inclement weather. When the snow slowed down Sunday, retailers said the crowds picked up. Department stores also slashed prices, which attracted shoppers looking for deals."Everybody was anticipating the storm on Friday for Saturday (and) they were all out doing their shopping Friday. And then on Sunday the weather broke and everyone was out doing their shopping," said Andrew McKenzie, assistant store manager of J.C. Penney at the mall.Web sites also took advantage of people who stayed home because of the weather by giving customers free shipping and added discounts.
