Brewers Sign Vargas To One-Year Deal

(Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers signed pitcher Claudio Vargas to a one-year deal on Friday.

Vargas went 1-0 with a 1.74 earned-run average in 36 appearances with the Dodgers and Brewers in 2009. The 31-year-old native of Puerto Rico holds a 47-40 lifetime record and 4.76 ERA over 200 games (114 starts) with six clubs since 2003.

In addition, the Brewers invited catcher Matt Treanor to spring training. The 33-year-old backstop played in just four games a season ago due to a right hip problem.
