Monday, September 29, 2008
Chicago, IL -- (Sports Network) - Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Freddy Garcia left Monday's 8-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox in the sixth inning with stiffness in his right shoulder.Garcia started the frame by walking Chicago's Dewayne Wise, then after Wise stole second, Garcia summoned the Tigers' training staff while favoring his right arm. After momentary consultation, Garcia was pulled from the contest. Armando Galarraga was called on to take the mound. "He pitched tremendous. It's terrible we lost him like we did," said Tigers manager Jim Leyland. "That sums up how our season has gone." Garcia was tagged for two hits and two runs over five-plus innings, fanning three while issuing as many walks. Galarraga took the loss, charged with one run and a pair of costly wild pitches without retiring a batter.
