Milwaukee Brewers (77-55) At St. Louis Cardinals (73-60), 8:15 P.m.
(Sports Network) - In the final regular season meeting between the two clubs, the Milwaukee Brewers aim for an eighth straight win over the St. Louis Cardinals tonight in the finale of a two-game set at Busch Stadium. Milwaukee captured its seventh straight win over St. Louis and fifth consecutive win overall with Tuesday night's 12-0 pounding. The victory kept the Brewers five games behind front-running Chicago in the National League Central, while moving the club 4 1/2 games up on the Cardinals and New York Mets for the wild card spot. Ryan Braun and Bill Hall each hit two-run homers for the Brewers to back six solid innings from Ben Sheets, who matched a career-high by posting his 12th win of the season. Prince Fielder finished 3-for-6 with two RBI and a run scored and Jason Kendall also drove in three runs in the victory. J.J. Hardy extended his hitting streak to 11 games in last night's win, and is batting .383 (18-for-47) with three homers and 11 RBI over his run. However, he is 0-for-10 lifetime against tonight's starter for the Cardinals, Adam Wainwright. Wainwright hadn't pitched since June 7 due to a right middle finger sprain before returning to action on Friday to best the Braves. He held them to a run on five hits over six innings to win for the fourth time in his last five decisions. The right-hander, who turns 27 on Saturday, is 7-3 with a 3.04 earned run average, and is also a solid 5-1 with a 2.76 ERA in eight home starts this year. He is 2-2 with a save and 3.02 ERA in 12 games, five of those starts, lifetime against the Brewers. That includes a setback on May 12 when he was tagged for eight runs (6 earned) on eight hits. He has struggled against Braun this year, as the Milwaukee outfielder is 4-for-9 against him with two homers and three RBI. Aaron Miles had two hits for St. Louis in Tuesday night's loss, while Albert Pujols went 0-for-3 to end his eight-game hitting streak. He was hitting .563 (18-for-32) over the burst with four homers, 10 RBI and six multi-hit games. His season average dipped to .356, one point behind Atlanta's Chipper Jones for the major-league lead. St. Louis has lost four of seven, and its skid to the Brewers is a franchise worst. The Cardinals have lost 10 of their 14 meetings with Milwaukee this year. Manny Parra starts for Milwaukee, and he halted a five-start winless stretch (0-4) last time out with a win over Houston. Parra allowed a pair of runs on six hits over five innings in improving to 10-6 this year with a 4.10 ERA. The left-hander has a 5.79 ERA in three starts this year against the Cardinals without a decision, allowing nine runs over 14 innings. Pujols and Ryan Ludwick are both 3-for-6 off him this year with a home run.
