Two Teens Killed In Car Accident

Posted: 4:45 pm EDT March 24, 2008Updated: 6:21 pm EDT March 24, 2008

Tragedy strikes a local community as two teens are killed in a weekend car accident. Now residents in the Blacklick Valley School District have to try to comprehend the loss.

State police say excessive speed was a factor in Saturday's crash that killed 16-year old Tiana Rose of Nanty Glo and 16-year old Nicholas Maniccia of Twin Rocks. Two other teens are recovering.

Both Rose and Maniccia were juniors at Blacklick Valley High School. Tuesday the teen's classmates return to school after Easter break and school official say they are ready.

Two teddy bears are at the center of a makeshift memorial at the site of Saturday's deadly car accident. Rose was the homecoming princess this past year and Maniccia was on the homecoming court. Passengers Brook Litzinger and Jeremy Turous survived the accident, despite Litzinger being thrown 90 feet from the vehicle.

When school resumes Tuesday morning, there will no doubt be tons of questions. The high school principal says it is such a small school that everyone knows everyone. To help the students get through this tragedy, grief counselors will be on hand for the students. Officials are also going to send home a letter to parents to help their kids go through the grieving process.

The accident happened on the windy Snake Road in Blacklick Township. Residents who live along the road say they are saddened by the accident. However despite the sharp bends, they do not feel it is a dangerous road.

Both Rose and Maniccia be viewed at the Askew-Houser Funeral Home in Nanty Glo.
