Northern Cambria police Chief Kevin Stanek is under suspended without pay because police in a neighboring community said Stanek drove drunk and physically assaulted another police officer.

Stanek is facing both felony and misdemeanor charges after a Susquehanna Township police officer place him under arrest in April.

The arresting officer said Stanek was so under control the night of the arrest, he was forced to use pepper spray on him.

Northern Cambria's mayor said the borough council approved the suspension without pay until the situation is resolved in court.

Officer Dave Hassen was put in charge of the department until further notice.

Stanek is expected in court on May 20.
