Union Workers Hold Informational Picket

POSTED: 7:54 pm EDT July 8, 2008
UPDATED: 9:22 am EDT July 9, 2008

Union employees at a local paper mill were picketing Tuesday. Although it still wasn't the real deal, they said management isn't budging, so they're working from all angles.

The CEO of Appleton Paper was in town for meetings and union workers at the mill in Roaring Spring said that's why they were having an informational picket to let him know exactly what's happening there.

It's the second time they've taken to the street and they said they'll keep it up until the management listens.

The union filed unfair labor charges back April after the company implemented a contract that they didn't want. Company officials said the negotiating reached an impasse.

Along with the pickets the union has put up a billboard along Route 36 that says they're not being treated fairly.

The NLRB is expected to come back with their ruling soon and union workers said if they win, that means it's back to the drawing board to work out a fair contract with management, but if they lose they'll be walking out.

The union president said they have issue with the union benefits and the health care cost.

Appleton officials said they're still waiting for the ruling, but they think the union's claim is without merit and will be dismissed.
