SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. -- For the first time in months, Shade Township in Somerset County once again has its own police officer. The area used to be served by Conemaugh Township police but that agreement is in the past, and apparently, so are the warm feelings between supervisors.Conemaugh offered to give the cars back to Shade Township or give supervisors the cash that the cars are worth today. However, Shade supervisors said they don't want the cars back and they want more than what they are actually worth. Officials said they have the paperwork to back it up."There is a dollar amount put on them and it was spelled out in the agreement," said Shade Township supervisor John Topka. "We signed it and they signed it."The contract states that when police service ends, Shade is to be reimbursed a set amount for the cars. The price for one of the cars is $1,900. The other car is set at almost $1,700. However, Conemaugh Township officials aren't seeing it that way."We don't agree with what the cars are valued at," said Conemaugh Township supervisor Steve Buncich. With the proof on paper, some in Shade are scratching their heads and calling on the justice system by filing a lawsuit.
