Management Blamed For Deadly Mine Accident

POSTED: 9:33 pm EDT July 23, 2008
UPDATED: 2:03 pm EDT July 24, 2008

The Mine Safety and Health Administration says management failed to ensure there was direct communication between workers Feb. 25 inside the Nolo Mine in Indiana County.

The agency said a mining crew and surveyors were not fully aware of each other's activities.

Surveyor Bruce Makin of Ebensburg died after being struck by a coal-hauling shuttle inside the mine operated by Amfire Mining Co.

The federal agency said Amfire has taken corrective action. Stay wtih Channel 6 News and WJACTV.com for continuing coverage.
