A Centre County man is charged with attempted murder after police said he stabbed a man numerous times near an elementary school.

Richard Barger, of Port Matilda, is accused of stabbing Ryan Morgan during a fight near the Port Matilda Elementary School around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said Morgan suffered multiple injuries, including a collapsed lung and damage to his heart region.

Morgan was transferred to Altoona Regional Trauma Center and his condition was not released as of Thursday morning.

Police said several witnesses told them Barger was trying to recruit others to help him assault Morgan. A motive remains under investigation.
