Young Johnstown Hero Gets Birthday Surprise

A Richland Township youngster is getting a lot of attention for her actions in a swimming pool earlier this week.

Taylor Toth, 7, rescued a drowning toddler from her neighbor's pool. Her mother told Channel 6 News how proud she is of her daughter, and she's not the only one.

David Gehlman, the owner of the Roxbury Creamery, saw the story on WJAC and heard how it was Taylor's birthday next week. He and his wife decided they would donate a cake to Taylor for her life-saving actions.

Taylor was swimming in the pool when a 3-year-old girl jumped in without her water wings and began to drown. Her mother had walked inside for only a minute, thinking her daughter was in the front yard and away from the pool. Taylor scooped the little girl up and got her out of the water.

"It's always nice to see something like that on the news instead of the negative stuff we have to deal with so often in this world," said Gehlman. "We thought it would be nice to donate her birthday cake to her."

Taylor's family is touched by the gesture.
