The community at Penn State Altoona is mourning after a student was killed in a crash Sunday.Nichole Chauvet was a cheerleader on campus and an education major. The director of university relations said Chauvet's death has shaken the campus."We are a very, very close -knit college community so the loss of one of our students affects so many other students, faculty, staff members," said Shari Routch. "It affects a lot of people but there are a lot who are able to come together and offer their support for those who are grieving."Chauvet was with four friends at the time of the crash. Another student was thrown from the car and was listed in stable condition at Altoona Regional Health Systems. The other three passengers were also treated for injuries. The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Police said Chauvet was riding in the back seat of a Honda when the driver made a left onto Juniata Gap Road on a green light, but failed to yield to oncoming traffic. Police said a Jaguar traveling south on Chestnut Avenue then struck the Honda. The driver of the Jaguar walked away from the crash with minor scrapes. The Health and Wellness Department at the university will have a walk-in grief counseling session for students on campus Monday at 5:30 p.m.
