Juniata College Students Get Dirty To Recycle

POSTED: 11:22 pm EDT October 25, 2006
UPDATED: 8:54 am EDT October 26, 2006

Things got a little dirty at Juniata College Wednesday, but that was okay for students taking part in a trash collecting project.

As part of Campus Sustainability Day, students collected trash from around the campus and separated items that could be recycled, composted or reused in some way. The idea behind the activity was to show how much trash is accumulated on a daily basis and to point out things that can be recycled to save the environment.

"What we've done is we have separated the dormitory trash from the office building trash and we are going to be able to see what we find, differences between the trash in the two areas and highlight that for the campus community as a whole to see," said Rob Yelnosky, asssistant to the president for administrative services at Juniata College.

Students at other colleges throughout the country also celebrated Campus Sustainability Day by participating in environmentally friendly events.
