Pilot Recovers Following Deadly Plane Crash

Posted: 8:07 am EST November 13, 2006

The pilot of a deadly Centre County plane crash has improved from critical to fair condition at Altoona Hospital.

The single-engine plane crashed into a wooded, remote part of Snow Shoe Friday night. The passenger, 63-year-old Harry Batson, of Michigan, died in the crash, while the pilot, Pascal Schadegg, of Switzerland, was able to call 911 from his cell phone after the crash.

Because of darkness and the remote location of the crash, it took rescuers a couple hours to find Schadegg.

The National Transportation Safety Board has been called in to investigate the crash.
