Flurries Are Welcome Sight At Area Ski Resort

At Tussey Mountain ski resort, General Manager Dave Fahrenbach said he was glad to finally see cold weather and some flurries hit the area.

"We are off to probably the mildest start as long as I can remember," he said on Tuesday. "I've been here 20 years..."

About 6 inches of snow is needed on the slopes for skiing or snowboarding. So far, Mother Nature has blanketed the area with unseasonably warm temperatures instead of the snow.

"We are going to start making snow," Fahrenbach said. "We are probably going to get about 2 slopes covered a night."

With much of the ski season still ahead, Fahrenbach said he is hoping to see the cold spell continue, bringing lots of snow.

"Next week, we are going to get a lot of cold weather coming into the area and by the end of next week we'll have the slopes completely covered again," he said.
