Philipsburg Residents React To Possible Hospital Reopening Delay

Due to damage from water pipes, it appears the reopening of Philipsburg Hospital may once again be up in the air.

"They'll hurry up and get them fixed," said Trudy Harpster, a Philipsburg resident. "And, I hope they hurry up and open that hospital." Harpster was among a number of residents in the community who reacted to the latest setback in the reopening of the hospital.

The group that bought the facility said they had hoped to reopen it sometime this spring, but that may be delayed because of water damage. Pipes inside a heating system in the facility that froze during the recent cold spell have now burst, causing thousands of dollars of damage.

"Well, I hadn't heard that, you know," said Jane Huber, who was outside an area grocery store. "But it has been standing for a long time so but, I hope they soon get everything up and running because this area really needs it."

No word yet on if or how much the water pipe damage could delay the reopening of the hospital.
