Area Children Learn About The '77 Flood From Jim Burton

Marking the 30th anniversary of the flood that ravaged the Johnstown area, WJAC-TV's Jim Burton talked to local children about the 1977 flood on Friday.

The program was designed to explain that floods are not always caused by a dam breaking, and explained that weather can wipe out entire towns.Paige Left, 7, said she learned "that there's destruction in the flood, lots of homes are damaged and after the water goes away, there's lots of mud."Burton's visit was part of the Greater Johnstown School District's Summer in the City program.For more about the flood, visit our special section: "Looking Back: The '77 Flood."
