Anniversary Of Quecreek Mine Rescue Celebrated

This week marks the fifth anniversary of a local tragedy that turned into national celebration.

Nine miners became trapped by on July 24, 2002 in an underground flood at the Quecreek Mine in Somerset County.

The rescue operation caught the attention of the national media, and America celebrated when all nine members were rescued 77 hours later.

A Pennsylvania resolution proclaimed this week Nine for Nine Remembrance Week.
