Local Businessman Says He Did Not Kill Wife

Posted: 2:06 pm EDT August 9, 2007Updated: 2:10 pm EDT August 9, 2007

A local businessman said he is not guilty of slaying his wife nearly two decades ago.

Michael George is accused of killing his wife, Barbara, 17 years ago in Michigan.

At an extradition hearing in Somerset County, George, of Windber, said, "No. I didn't do it. I was with my daughters and my mom. They know. They know I didn't do this."

Police in Michigan said George has always been a suspect in Barbara George's slaying. They also said George's current wife, Jeannette Rene George, who he moved in with two months after the slaying, was friends with Barbara.

Police said Jeannette was an employee at the comic book store George and Barbara owned.

George is fighting extradition to Michigan for a trial. Officials said in the next few weeks, witnesses from Michigan are expected to come to Somerset County for an extradition hearing.
