STONYCREEK TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- With America preparing to mark the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, there are mixed emotions in Somerset County: reverence for the special services planned for the occasion, but also concern about the future of the Flight 93 National Memorial.Congressman Bill Shuster, (R) 9th District, gave the Environmental Protection Agency until Tuesday to figure out how to deal with the a toxin issue. Manganese was found at the site. Now, the EPA is refusing to begin construction on the memorial until the manganese is removed from the land. The congressman wants a waiver on the issue because of difficulties with removing the substance. Officials said the levels of the mineral on the land are not dangerous to visitors.A representative from the EPA told Channel 6 News they have been working with local officials to resolve this issue and they are planning on responding to the problem sometime this week.
