In the wake of numerous problems, a Cambria County nursing home administrator has lost his job.

Laurel Crest, which is run by the county, has lost its regular operating license twice because of deficiencies the state found. This week, administrator William Wernicki was terminated.

Commissioners did not say specifically why Wernicki was fired, but said they are progressing in their effort to get the nursing home back to state standards.

Wernicki said, "There have been ongoing disagreements for the last year between myself and the commissioners as to how to run the nursing home. Yesterday (Wednesday), I met with the commissioners to review the numerous reports I had presented to them over the past year concerning improvements needed at the facility."

Las week, the home was put back on a provisional license because of problems with the patient lift at the facility that had not been fixed. A patient also died after falling off of one of those lifts in August.
