New Ultrasound Technology Coming To Richland Township

The technology has been around for awhile, but this is the first time 4D ultrasounds have been available in Johnstown.

Janelle Visinsky of Berlin has the glow of a mother expecting, but her smile is even bigger as she sees her little girl suck her thumb even before she is born. The bonding experience is all thanks to a new business in Richland Township called "Coming Attractions."

"It is very neat," said Visinsky. "Her mouth was opening and just to see all the little features like her eyes and her nose, it was great."

The owner, Lori Deaner, is a registered ultrasound technician. She stressed this is just for entertainment purposes and regular visits to your doctor are required.

"They don't know if there's any bio-effects to the fetus with long term exposure to the ultrasound waves," said Deaner. "The FDA is regulating it."

The length of ultrasounds are kept short and in several states it is illegal for ultrasound technicians to use the machines without a doctor's order. So far in Pennsylvania, that is not the case.

Deaner said during her 10 years of experience she has never seen adverse effects from ultrasounds.

For Janelle, with each little yawn, she said it's an experience she wouldn't do without.
