Hundreds Of Jobs Coming To Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. -- About 200 news jobs will be created in the area thanks to a new business in Altoona.American Customer Care will open a call center by November, supplying 200 customer service jobs to the area within the next year.The Connecticut-based company will open their new site in the Fiore Furniture building on Cayuga Avenue. The Altoona center will be the company's tenth in the country and fifth in the state.The company provides services over the phone to customers of businesses like Readers Digest and 1-800-FLOWERS.Representatives said they are looking for employees who are comfortable talking on the phone. The jobs will pay $7.50 an hour plus productivity incentives, paid vacations and holiday. The shifts are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.The company will hold a job fair on Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Cayuga Avenue location. The company said they expect 300 to 400 potential employees to attend the job fair."This is really the new manufacturing of our time, so we hope the people who were displaced from SKF or wherever it may be, take the time to apply with American Customer Care at their job fair next Monday," said Bob Scholl with ABCD Corporation in Altoona.The company will start hiring on Monday and continue to hire over several weeks.
