JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- A body scan can be a live-saving tool when it comes to detecting cancer, heart disease or a stroke in its early stages.A local newspaper advertised a full-body scan for $500 -- but the scans weren't being performed at a hospital. Instead, they were being offered at a Cambria County hotel.Ultra Life, a California-based company, was offering everything from kidney and liver scans, to thyroid and heart scans at the Comfort Inn in Richland Township. The scans are being offered at reduced prices and patients don't have to step foot in a hospital.Ultra Life hires certified technicians to perform the scans, and the results are sent to doctors across the county who determine if the patient is healthy or not. While doctors do not recommend having a scan done at one of these clinics, they said the scans are not unsafe.
