Philipsburg Hospital Ordered To Reopen By Feb. 1

Posted: 2:41 pm EST January 11, 2008Updated: 3:50 pm EST January 11, 2008

Nearly two years after Philipsburg Hospital closed, the doctor in charge of reopening it has been court-ordered to do so by Feb. 1.

The hospital filed for bankruptcy in January 2006 and closed its doors three months later. Since then, Rosewood Real Estate, which is led by Dr. Larry Adams, bought the facility and its equipment.

Rosewood's attorney, Charles Bierbach, said the owners are not prepared to open the entire hospital next month, but will start by opening a lab.

Adams said he wants to work up to a full emergency room and same-day surgery, but that will depend on financial support. He also said the charges he faces for overprescribing drugs to a patient will not affect the group's ability to open the hospital.

The real estate group owes a bankruptcy payment by March 31, which representatives said they plan on making.
