JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- It's been five years that the battle has been going on between Freightcar America and the United Steel Workers Union. There was a glimmer of hope recently, but now there are new details and new questions about the future of the plant.

According to the union, a court injunction was supposed to put workers back on the employment roster, at least until they were eligible for their pensions. Now, instead of going back to work, trucks are being loaded up with equipment. Some are wondering what that means for the future of the site.

Ron Repak with the Johnstown Redevelopment authority said that if the judge's ruling isn't overturned and workers aren't reinstated, the fate of the site lies in the company's hands. It's up to Freightcar if they want to sell the buildings.

Repak said they are marketable and will likely be used again.

"They are pretty decent buildings over there," said Repak. "They still have water, sewage and power."

There also also large cranes in the buildings which may be attractive to other companies.

However, with the current legal battles over pensions, Repak said it could be awhile before anything is done with the plant.
