CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. -- The Stiles children sat down Wednesday evening for a cup of hot cocoa without the slightest idea their mother is struggling every day to keep food on the table. Her husband is one of the hundreds laid off by Freightcar America in Johnstown. This, after 19 years of work, just shy of the 20 years needed to get his pension."It's tough to tell your kids you have to cut back on milk," said Christine Stiles.Stiles said for the family of four, they are living on $393 a week in unemployment."We don't even qualify for food stamps," said Stiles. "The last time I applied we were bringing in $20 a month too much."She also said that with the high cost of day care and gas, a full-time job for her just isn't an option. As for her husband, he is trying to go to school."It's hard for him to get gas money to go," said Stiles. "Then, about two weeks ago our car broke down on his way there."That makes the couple almost completely dependent on family.Stiles said she doesn't know what the future holds for them or for other Freightcar families, but she does know they will get through it with a little love and a lot of faith.
