Centre County Hospital Reopens

Posted: 2:15 pm EST February 1, 2008Updated: 2:38 pm EST February 1, 2008

As part of a court order, a section of Philipsburg Hospital was open on Friday.

Thursday, crews put the finishing touches on the hospital. On Friday, a waiting room was in place, a secretary was taking calls and making appointments, and Dr. Larry Adams was busy with patients.

Adams, who moved his private practice into the hospital, said the facility is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and said the hospital is taking walk-ins.

One longtime patient of Adams said he is thrilled to see the hospital reopening little by little.

"Time matters, especially with emergency care. This place has been closed for a long time now, and it's great to see it opening. I think it's great for everybody -- the whole community," said Fred Edwards of Morrisdale.

Adams was in bankruptcy court earlier this week and the judge is expected to determine if Adams' real estate group had followed the state's rules in reopening the hospital. The hearing was continued until later this month.
