ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Plans for two new drug rehabilitation facilities in Allegheny Township are moving right along, but residents are trying to bring them to a halt.Pyramid Healthcare bought the former Blair Christian Home on Route 220 with plans to move their headquarters into the building, along with 240 patients. The Discovery House has shown interest in another building on Route 22, just a few miles away. They supply methodone and additional treatment for substance abusers.Residents of Allegheny Township said they are worried, not just because the clinics would be close to their homes and businesses, but a local elementary school and a day care are also nearby.Hundreds of residents attended Wednesday nights public forum about the possible clinics, and numerous residents spoke of safety concerns as well as property value loss because of the drug rehabilitation clinics. The supervisors are working on a 180 day hold on any development of the clinics to sort through the details, but state law will not allow leaders to deny the clinics in the area.
