Update: Blair County Couple Files Windmill Suit

Posted: 8:01 pm EDT May 5, 2008Updated: 8:21 pm EDT May 5, 2008

A Blair County couple is suing Gamesa Energy over the noise from the Allegheny Ridge Wind Farm.

Todd and Jill Stull said it is their last resort to get the incessant noise to stop. And their case is attracting a lot of attention from people across the country and even Canada who said they have the same problem with the noise, but they are waiting to see if the Stull's lawsuit sets a precedent.

The Stulls have a 100-acre farm in Juniata Township. It is surrounded by not one, but six windmills. Jill Stull said with her doors and windows closed, the noise is still louder than her refrigerator. And according to Stull, they can feel the low frequency vibrations from the turbines on their hard wood floor.

The Stulls have been contacting Gamesa for more than a year. They have also had local lawmakers come to their house to listen to the turbines and the township even passed an ordinance. However, Stull said the noise hasn't gone away.

Stull said sleep deprivation, and now medical problems, have driven them to file the lawsuit.

Stull said Gamesa has not said a word to them yet about the lawsuit.

Officials from Gamesa were not available for comment.
