Local Principals Hoping To Teach "Green"

Posted: 5:28 pm EDT May 7, 2008Updated: 6:21 pm EDT May 7, 2008

Rising gas prices are a painful side effect of economic problems. Now two local principals are trying to take the problems head-on.

The two high school principals say the only way to solve our fuel crisis is through education. To get their point across, they're walking from the Alleghenies to Washington, D.C.

United High School principal Lewis Kindja and assistant principal Aaron Steinly are hitting the road. In June they are going to walk 216 miles to Washington, D.C., all in an effort to raise awareness about our fuel crisis and a push for alternative fuels.

Through the Community Foundation of the Allegehnies, Lewis and Kindja have created a non-profit organization called "Principals for Change." The organization's goal is to provide grants for teachers in other school districts to develop curriculum and green projects for their students.

The two say the nine day walk to D.C. is going to be a grueling one, but worth it if they can get schools to teach green.

If you would like more information on this story (see below) or tips on going green you can find them under our "Going Green" page here at wjactv.com.
