Gas Prices Affect Florists For Mother's Day

UPDATED: 2:27 pm EDT May 9, 2008

Gas prices are not just impacting drivers' wallets, but other businesses are also feeling the financial crunch that comes with the rising prices.

George Griffith, co-owner of the Flower Barn, said the gas prices have affected his prices.

"At first, we tried to absorb the cost, but then the gas prices just kept going up and up and up," said Griffith.

His delivery charge went from $4 to $5, lower than the national average of approximately $7.

But he said increasing delivery charges isn't decreasing business because he thinks that more people are putting money toward flowers for mom, instead of giving it up for gas.

"Instead of driving back home, they're sending flowers back home," said Griffith.
