Golf Carts Go Green

A company in the Alleghenies is helping people down-size and go green with a golf cart that's ready for the road.

Decker's Garage in Martinsburg has been building customized golf carts for the last four years.

With headlights, taillights, turn signals and road wheels, the golf carts are street legal. But beginning this week, they're no longer just powered by batteries or gas, solar roofs will be installed.

"The solar roof will actually gain you about 30 percent more in a days run or a days charge. And it charges all day long as long as you're out in the light," said garage owner Howard Decker.

Decker said his garage is the only one in the country taking in-town driving to a whole new level. And with two in-house artists, the carts are all custom designed.

"If you can think it, we can design it. There's nothing that they can't put on these carts," said Decker.

Decker said they've sold hundreds of the hand-painted bodies to customers across the country. The New York Giants are on the list for their own specialty carts. And a dozen of the eco-friendly carts are already spoken for even though the parts have yet to arrive.

According to Decker, the carts cost anywhere from $4,500 to $9,500.

Designs are posted on the company's website www.deckersgarage.com.
