Dangerous Compound Found In Punxsutawney Building

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. -- A compound which can be hazardous to humans has been found in a Punxsutawney building.The compound, hexavalent chromium, was found in the former Berlin Metals building.The DEP has been investigating groundwater and soil around the building since 2006.They discovered a crystalline material seeping out of crack in the concrete floor there.Hexavalent Chromium is used in metal plating operations and is a known carcinogen.The DEP is working with the owners of the building to find a solution.The building may eventually be torn down.
