UPDATED: 7:11 pm EDT May 13, 2008

A compound which can be hazardous to humans has been found in a Punxsutawney building.

The compound, hexavalent chromium, was found in the former Berlin Metals building.

The DEP has been investigating groundwater and soil around the building since 2006.

They discovered a crystalline material seeping out of crack in the concrete floor there.

Hexavalent Chromium is used in metal plating operations and is a known carcinogen.

The DEP is working with the owners of the building to find a solution.

The building may eventually be torn down.
