WILCOX, Pa. -- Elk County officials are calling an illegal dump near Wilcox "the worst in the county."

The dump includes more than 60 years of trash, along Clarion Road in Wilcox.

County official said the area was the town dump until 1950.

But they added that local officials have recently allowed people to dump brush there.

"That quickly got out of hand," said Bekki Titchner, of the county Solid Waste Authority. "There are now people bringing trash there from outside the county."

Titchner is looking into a state grant to help clean up the area.

She said that could take time, since so much trash has been dumped there.
