Somerset County Man Asks That Conviction Be Overturned

The Somerset County business owner convicted of murdering his wife in Michigan nearly 18 years ago was back in court Thursday morning.

Attorneys for Michael George asked the judge who ruled over his trial to overturn his March 17 jury conviction and deliver a "directed verdict." That means George's attorneys believe that the state did not prove its case, despite the jury returning a guilty verdict.

The judge could simply deny the motion and let the defense appeal the conviction, reverse the jury's verdict or order a new trial for George.
