Safety Equipment Will Be Added To Somerset County Town's Railroad Crossings

POSTED: 1:49 pm EDT May 15, 2008
UPDATED: 2:08 pm EDT May 15, 2008

New coal trains have been a growing safety concern in the Somerset County community of Windber, but thanks to funding from PennDOT, the worries will soon be over.

Two large cantilevers will be installed at the intersection of Graham Avenue and 13th Street.

Borough leaders and residents were concerned about the crossings because several buildings block drivers' views of the trains.

The cost of the upgrades will be $300,000.
