Jefferson County Man Bags Alligator

POSTED: 4:40 pm EDT May 15, 2008
UPDATED: 7:35 pm EDT May 15, 2008

It wasn't an average Florida vacation for Jefferson County businessman Billy Rugh.

Rugh bagged a 12-foot-2-inch alligator on the trip.

He hunted at a private ranch, where the owner was issued permits to kill the animals.

Rugh said the hunt was very different from hunting deer in Pennsylvania, because alligators are dangerous animals.

He added that the experienced guides were instrumental to his success.

"They located some very big alligators," he said. "That was exactly what we were looking for."

Taxidermists estimated the alligator's age at around 100 years old.

Rugh plans to mount the gator and display it in his feed store.
