Stimulus Checks Hit Glitch

Friday, May 16, 2008 – updated: 8:21 pm EDT May 16, 2008

The government was supposed to give people who have children $300 per child as part of the economic stimulus package. However, for about 350,000 Americans, that didn't happen.

According to the Associated Press, a mix of human error and computer glitches are to blame. The IRS plans to send out checks in July to those who missed out on the child refund.

However, what if you don't have children and you still didn't get as much as you were expecting? There could be several reasons for that.

According to the IRS Web site, if you are single and the taxes taken out of your wages was less than $600, you won't get the full amount in your stimulus check. It's the same if you are married and together your tax liability is less than $1,200.

Another possibility for why your check may be low is that you could owe back taxes or have debts, such as unpaid student loans or child support obligations.

To learn more about the stimulus checks, or why you may not have gotten the full amount check out the "as mentioned" link of our Web site.
