Falls Creek Residents Concerned About Trains Blocking Railroad Crossings

POSTED: 4:02 pm EDT May 21, 2008
UPDATED: 8:43 pm EDT May 21, 2008

It happens nearly every day around noon in Falls Creek.

Trains block a railroad crossing on Route 830, which is one of the busiest roads in the borough.

These trains stop on the crossing while they're loaded at a nearby lumber yard.

On Wednesday, a train was stopped for about five minutes.

Residents said that's minor compared to most days at the crossing.

Borough officials have looked into the problem.

They've even asked for help from the state police.

"Their hands are tied because this is railroad property," said Falls Creek Borough Council President Dennis Peck. "We just want their support."

Peck added that one solution to the problem is building a bridge over the railroad crossing.
