Friday, June 13, 2008 – updated: 3:16 pm EDT June 13, 2008

Some Johnstown residents were evacuated from their homes Friday morning after a road crew struck a gas line.

The incident happened in the area of Keppler and Palliser streets in the Upper Yoder area around 9 a.m.

Officials said a road crew struck the line, releasing the gas into the air and forcing some nearby residents to leave their homes.

Workers said their maps showed the area was clear of any lines.

The problem was fixed and residents were permitted to return home just before noon.
