Jefferson County Organizations Team Up For Bike Safety

Saturday, July 5, 2008 – updated: 11:41 pm EDT July 5, 2008

It's called a Bike Rodeo, but don't expect to see cowboys and horses at this event.

Several Jefferson County organizations teamed up for the event to teach children about bicycle safety.

Jefferson County E.M.S., Punxsutawney Fire Department, Stat-Medivac and the Punxsutawney Police Department organized the event.

After registering for the program, the children participated in a bicycle obstacle course while receiving a few safety tips.

At the end of the program they received a new bike helmet and a special photo I.D.

Organizers said, since they started the event three years ago, accidents involving kids on bicycles are down in the county.

The program is part of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Days Festival.
