Massive Bee Hive Found In Somerset County

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 – updated: 6:13 pm EDT July 15, 2008

Beekeepers a 9-foot-long bee hive Tuesday with more than 80,000 bees living inside.

The hive was inside the wall of the Carol's Carpet Warehouse in Windber Borough.

The owner of the property said the bees have been multiplying for several years, but she couldn't find anyone who would agree to get rid of them because of a shortage of honeybees.

She managed to find two veteran beekeepers from Ligonier who agreed to remove the bees from the area without killing them.

Tuesday they removed the hive and the bees from the building, saying it was the biggest colony they've ever seen.
