JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Run-down vacant buildings and houses that are eyesores can be seen on streets all across the Alleghenies. If Sen. John Wozniak's Renaissance City Bill passes, cities like Johnstown, Altoona, and Dubois will have some extra help rebuilding their central businesses and downtowns.Johnstown City Manager Curt Davis agrees the bill is a step in the right direction even though the entire process would take at least six months. Just a few weeks ago, the Planing Mill in Johnstown collapsed onto a street, leaving nearby residents wondering why something wasn't done sooner."The Planing Mill is an example of a nice piece of property, but everyone is hesitant to step in because they're going to have to carry the cost of demolition," said Davis. The bill would also give public safety grants to help area emergency services with things like new equipment and crime prevention programs.
