JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Residents near the new Coopersdale Development are welcoming it with open arms -- with good reason, too. The new houses will soon becomes people's dream home."Every time we move forward with a new phase and we get to add new features to the home, it just really enlightens us and I think it's an improvement from what we've done in the past," said Johnstown Housing Authority Director Dan Kanuck.A $1.1 million revitalization project is at the site of the old Coopersdale High School. The Johnstown Housing Authority built new homes in the Prospect section of Johnstown four years ago, and officials said they couldn't keep building more without some extra help from Goodwill Industries and the Youth Build Program.Kanuck said, "They've done a great job, and I can't say enough about them. It will continue as long as the program exists, and as we continue to do our improvements they'll be part of it."Officials are making sure the neighborhood stays safe; the new homes are income-based. You must have a full-time job and go through a strict screening process to apply.Phase one of the project should be completed by mid-September.
